Can I rename a bulk task after uploading it?

Last updated May 19, 2026Bulk verification

Right now, Valid Email Checker does not expose a rename control for bulk tasks. The List Name you type into the upload form before clicking Start Bulk Verification is the name that shows up on the Uploads & Results page and on the per-task detail page, and it stays that way for the life of the task. There is no edit pencil on the row, no inline editor on the detail view.

Why this matters

When you accumulate dozens or hundreds of tasks, the list name is the primary thing you scan when searching the Uploads & Results page or sharing a task with a teammate. A meaningless name like My List 1 or untitled makes it hard to find the right task later. The 30-second discipline of typing a real name pays back the first time you need to locate the task again.

Good naming conventions

  • Include the campaign or purpose: Newsletter Q4 2026, Cold Outreach SaaS Founders, Salesforce contacts cleanup.
  • Add a date or quarter: 2026-05 Newsletter or Q4 Outreach List.
  • Mention the source: HubSpot export May 2026, Mailchimp segment AB tier.
  • Keep it under 50 characters or so. The table truncates very long names with an ellipsis.

What you can do if the name is wrong

A handful of options exist if you realize the name is wrong after the task starts:

  • Let the task complete, download the results, then delete the task. The downloaded file is yours to rename freely on your computer.
  • Keep a separate spreadsheet that maps task IDs to your internal naming. The task ID (visible in the Task ID column on Uploads & Results, copyable with one click) is the stable identifier.
  • For mistakes caught immediately after upload (within seconds, before the task starts processing), the cleanest path is to delete and re-upload with the correct name. Be aware that credits are deducted at task creation, so this approach costs the credits for the wrong-named task. Contact support if you need a refund.

On the roadmap

Renaming completed tasks is a frequently requested feature and likely to ship in a future release. In the meantime, the discipline of getting the name right before clicking Start is the working approach.

The List Name field auto-fills from the file name
If you upload a file called newsletter_q4_2026.csv, the upload form pre-fills the List Name with newsletter_q4_2026. Edit it before clicking Start if you want something more readable, or rename the file before upload.
