Can I refund unused credits from a closed account?

Last updated May 20, 2026Refunds & guarantees

Closing your Valid Email Checker account does not entitle you to a refund of unused credits. Paid credits, including any leftover PAYG balance and unspent Monthly bucket, are non-refundable on account closure. The 200 free credits every new account receives at signup exist precisely to let you evaluate the service before any paid purchase, so the buying decision is always informed.

The reasoning behind the policy

Credits represent prepaid units of verification work. Once you have purchased them, our cost on the upstream provider side is already committed — we paid for the capacity that backs your balance regardless of whether you ever spend it. Refunding unused credits at closure would mean eating that committed cost. The economics only work because the trial pool is generous (200 credits, no card required) and because customers come in knowing the credit purchase is final.

What you can do instead

  • Use the credits before closing. PAYG credits never expire. Even if you no longer need to verify lists at the volume you used to, the credits stay good indefinitely. You can run them down whenever you next have a list to clean.
  • Pause instead of closing. If you are leaving for a season but might be back, simply stop renewing your subscription rather than deleting the account. Your PAYG balance and the account stay intact.
  • Transfer the credits within a team. If your team has multiple users on the same account, the credits are shared at the account level. A different team member can continue to draw on them.
  • Reach out before closing. In rare circumstances — large unspent balance, situation outside your control — we may consider goodwill compensation. File a refund inquiry before closing the account.

The narrow exceptions

Two exceptions to the non-refundable rule on closure:

  • Statutory withdrawal rights on Paddle purchases. If you closed your account inside the unconditional refund window for your region (14 days in EU/UK/Turkey/Israel, 7 in South Korea/Brazil/China/Canada, 5 in Singapore), Paddle handles the refund directly. Contact paddle.net. See the refund policy for the full regional matrix.
  • Service-failure compensation. If the closure was driven by a documented platform issue and you have substantial unused credits, file an inquiry — admin reviews these case-by-case.

What happens to credits at closure

When you delete the account through Account Settings, your credit balance is zeroed out as part of the deletion. There is no transfer to another account, no migration to a new email, and no holding pattern. See delete your account guide and what happens to my data when I delete my account for the full closure mechanics.

Spend before you delete
If you are seriously considering closing your account, use the credits first. They are yours, they do not expire on PAYG, and there is no benefit to leaving them on the table.
