How do I pay a stuck or pending invoice manually?

Last updated May 19, 2026Subscriptions & billing

When a renewal charge fails in Valid Email Checker, a pending invoice is created with a 7-day due date. That invoice is the recovery touchpoint — paying it reactivates the subscription, missing the deadline cancels it. There is no third option, no "add a new card and wait," no automatic retry. This page is the step-by-step for paying the invoice.

Path 1: Pay from the past-due banner

  1. Go to Account Settings → Billing & Payments at /account-settings?tab=billing-payments.
  2. Look at the top of the page. A red banner reads *"Past Due — Pay your pending invoice before [date] to keep your credits active."*
  3. Click the Pay button in the banner. You land on the invoice page at /invoices/[invoice-number].
  4. Pick your payment method. If your card on file is what failed, add a new card first (Payment Methods tab) and come back. You can also choose crypto for this invoice.
  5. Complete payment. For card, Stripe or Paddle handles the off-session-style charge. For crypto, CoinPayments generates a wallet address and waits for confirmation.

The moment the payment clears, the subscription status flips from Past Due back to Active. current_period_end and next_billing_date move to 30 days from the payment. The invoice transitions to Paid, and the missed renewal is considered resolved.

Path 2: Pay from the Invoices tab

  1. Open Account Settings → Invoices (separate tab from Billing & Payments).
  2. Scroll to Invoice History. The pending invoice has status Pending or Overdue (overdue once the issue date plus due-window passes).
  3. Click View or open the invoice number — same payment page as path 1.
  4. Complete payment as above.

If the invoice will not load or pay

  • Refresh the page once. Some browsers cache the invoice page across status changes.
  • Confirm the invoice has not been auto-cancelled. If the 7-day grace expired before you paid, the invoice was cancelled along with the subscription. There is no path to pay a cancelled invoice; you would resubscribe instead.
  • Try a different payment method. If your card keeps failing on the invoice page (same failure as the original renewal), the underlying issue probably has not changed yet — call your bank.
  • For crypto invoices that show "expired" — the CoinPayments invoice has a short payment window. Restart payment on the invoice page to generate a fresh wallet address.
Pay with a different card than the one that failed
You can add a brand-new card during the invoice payment flow without setting it as default. That is often the cleanest recovery when the original card has an expired date or a fraud-block — add a personal card just for this one invoice.

Once paid, double-check the Subscription tab — the badge should read Active again and the next billing date should be 30 days out. See past-due explained for the full state machine.
