How do I select a specific Mailchimp list to verify?

Last updated May 20, 2026Integrations

Mailchimp organizes subscribers into Audiences (top-level containers) and Segments (filter-defined subsets). Valid Email Checker reads both shapes through the Mailchimp API and surfaces them in a searchable list picker. OAuth connection details are in the Mailchimp integration guide.

Opening the picker

  1. Open Integrations in the VEC sidebar.
  2. Find the Mailchimp row in Connected Integrations.
  3. Click the three-dot menu and pick Sync Now.
  4. A modal opens with the Mailchimp logo, the connection name, and the list picker.
  5. Pick exactly one row using the radio button.

Audiences vs. Segments

  • Audiences — Mailchimp's top-level subscriber containers. Most Mailchimp accounts have one or two. Each audience has its own opt-in confirmation, merge fields, and tags.
  • Segments — filter-defined subsets of an audience (by tag, by signup source, by engagement, by location). Useful for verifying a smaller, more targeted group.
  • Subscriber counts — pulled live from Mailchimp for each row.

The picker shows audiences and segments together, with the segment rows indented or grouped under their parent audience for clarity. Segment counts reflect current membership at the moment of the API call.

Sizing the verification cost

The credits-needed line at the bottom of the modal uses the Mailchimp subscriber count. Duplicate removal (on by default) lowers the actual spend. Unknown-status results refund automatically after verification. A 50,000-subscriber audience verification typically costs 45,000-48,000 credits in practice.

Segment-first hygiene strategy
Verifying entire audiences every month is wasteful for large Mailchimp accounts. Build a segment like 'Subscribers added in last 30 days' and verify just that segment monthly. Cleaner audiences and lower credit spend. Pair with the action defaults in the action-options FAQ.

Refreshing list data

Click the circular refresh icon at the top of the modal. VEC re-queries the Mailchimp API and updates subscriber counts in place. Useful after importing subscribers, editing segment filters, or creating new audiences.

After picking the list

Below the picker, choose Verify Only (default — Mailchimp data untouched) or Clean List Automatically. Verify Only is the recommended starting point for any new audience or segment. Hit Import List, and you are redirected to Uploads & Results to watch progress.

Troubleshooting

  • Audience missing — the Mailchimp OAuth grant may not include access to that audience. Disconnect and reconnect with an Owner-level Mailchimp account.
  • Segment count looks off — Mailchimp segments are dynamic, so the count reflects current membership. If the count changes between picker open and Import click, re-verify it via the refresh icon.
  • All Subscribers meta-list missing — the picker shows individual audiences, not an across-audience meta-list. Verify each audience separately.
